RO and Filling tank!
Boy this is taking a long time! I have a Kent R/O unit 24GPD. I am using all R/O water to mix for my 120 gallon tank + 50 gallon sump. This is taking way too long! My TDS from the R/O unit currently is 8ppm. The tap water is about 130-140ppm. I was getting about a drop every 10 seconds. I added a booster pump and now I am getting 1 1/2 drips every second. Still its taking way too long. I know I should add a pressure gage and will buy one today.
Questions: 1) Can different GPD R/O membranes fit into my system? 2) Are different manufactureres membranes interchangeable? 3) What exactly do I need a flow resrictor for? 4) Will there be a significant out put of water If I get a 50 - 60 GPD Membrane? Thanks for your help in advance!

I have a setup similar to yours: 125 gal. Kent 24gpd R/O. Would take half a day to get 5 gal. Ordered a 100gpd R/O DI unit, getting 5 gals. within 1 hour. Gauge reads 25psi, would get it even faster w/a booster pump.

I run a ARS 50 gpd unit with 45 PSI and get 5 gallons in 1 hour and 20 minutes.
My tap water reads 600-800 ppm going in and comes out at 0. Oh I do not know if you can use a different ro membrain for your unit. You can call I think his name is brian at www.aquaticreefsystems.com and he will awnser all your questions and hock you up. |

Thanks for your input guys!
I ordered a Dow/filmtec 100 gpd membrane with the flow restrictor from Aqua FX. They had a 50 gpd and the 100 gpd. The 100 gpd was only about $15.00 extra so I went for it!!! ![]()

That sounds about like my tap water. I think it was about 710 or 720 before the water softener and about 680 or 690 after. I have a 4 stage Kent ro/di system that i have not ran yet but i was wondering if my final product water would come out to 0 because my input water was so high. Do you find that your membranes need to be replaced alot with this water condition?

With a 100 gpd membrane and new flow restrictor combind less than $60, I think you went the right way. Much better choice than adding a pump.
Question though - do you have a flush valve on your RO? Sounds like with the membrane you had you wouldn't have been getting anywhere near its rated capacity. what did the inside of your membrane housing look like when you replacedd the membrane? Do you know what your water pressure is? Blue

Well I recieved my RO stuff yesterday. Changed out all of my filters. And it is working great! I'm getting about 5 PPM, and the flow rate is incredible. I'm going to see how many gallons per hour I'm getting tonight.

With PPM's being that high on your normal tap water you should REALLY get a flush valve kit to hook-up to your RO units. It WILL save you money in the long run.

A while back I started selling the thumbscrew needlevalve flow restrictor teamed up with a flush valve - it makes a great, functional, and compact combo. I think these flow restrictors are much better than the old type, especially in parts of the country where water temperature changes markedly through the seasons.
