moving livestock
Hi everyone,
I am moving, and have 1 stocked and 1 empty tank. I am wondering what the best way to move livestock, etc., will be. This is what I was thinking... Move the unstcoked (90 g) first, fill it, etc. I wanted to order new live rock from Tampa Bay Saltwater, and hopefully I won't have much of a cycle. After it's cycled, I would just move the livestock from the other tank into that one. I just wasn;t sure if moving all animals from one environment to another would cause some kind of chain stress reaction. I've upgraded my lights; the tank that's currently running has 4 vho's, and the new tank has 4 vho's plus 2 250 w 6500 iwasaki lights. I know I need to acclimate the corals to the new light, my real question is, will everything be ok with new (cycled) rock and different water? Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance, Evangeline

Hi Evangeline!
As long as the new tank is cycled and the parameters are as close to the current tank as possible, there shouldn't be any problem. It is always hit or miss when your moving livestock so the best thing we can do is to get the new environment as close as possible to the old.
I think as long as you let the new tank fully cycle, get your levels matching, you will be just fine. Just remember to acclimate your corals slowly to the new light, that is a significant change. ![]() Scott Z. |

This is some thing I have done 2 times with good sucess when moving to a new tank.
Set up the new tank with the rock and let it cure. When it is done curing and your ready to move into it take out about 30-40% for the water from the new tank and take along 30-40% of the water from the old tank with you when you move your inhabitiants that way the new tank will have a fiar amount of the old water in it thus making it even closer to your old water perameters. It has worked for 2 times with no looses but I didnt go to new stronger lights either time though but as long as you aclimate them to the new like you mentioned this should not be a problem. That is how I have done it anyway. GRegg |

Thanks for advice, everyone.
I need to go ahead and buy my rock, and begin the process. I will move about 30-40% of my old water into the new tank, that's a good idea. Jeff, no, i'm staying in Lafayette, I'm just moving across town. Moving is such a pain! Thanks again, Evangeline
