    Aquamaxx hob too many bubbles

I just transferred my hob-1 to my new tank, and there are so many bubbles that they are just billowing into my tank. It was shooting out bubbles on my old tank but it was in the sump area so it was not noticeable like it is now. Is there supposed to be an air valve on it to cut down the bubbles?

its plumbed just like the one in this picture

No, theres no air valve, it just goes into a silencer. Thats all most do.
Do you have the cup raised all the way up?
Have you cleaned out the airline tubing at the pump? It gets salt creep in it, and messess up the works.

+1 on giving it a good cleaning and adjusting the cup.

I had one of those on my 75 and they're beasts.

I gave it a complete cleaning before moving it to the new tank and the cup is all the way up. I swapped the fittings so the elbow is on top of the output instead of the tee and that helped, but there's still micro bubbles, not as bad as it was though.

I understand complete cleaning. But if you did not clean out in air line intake, that will still cause problems. You can't rinse this stuff out, it gets hard in the air line, and needs crunched to get it out.

Yes I did that. Took everything apart, soaked it in vinegar, poked it out with a needle.

Acatually truth be told. I had a HOB unit that once I cleaned it, the darn thing never worked right again. It was my yearly cleaning, took it out, cleaned everything including the body, put the darn thing back on, and the bubbles never stopped. I did evertyting I could possibly do to this thing, never to work properly again.....I had to remove it and toss it out. Got another one, same one, modified it like the last, and it works just fine. got me as to why it never worked again, just one of those things I guess.
    Clean Pump
    Clean Body
    Clean- New air line
Used flexible brush to clean intake tubes out.
Installed in the same place I pulled it from.......>>Pull hair out>>>Repeat<<Trash it<<
I missed nothing. Raised skimmer body, although this skimmer isn't supposed to be raised. Stupid thing just didnt' want to work.

Re: Aquamaxx hob too many bubbles

The microbubbles have settled down in mine now. It's like at first they were going everywhere, I could see inside the skimmer that they were going underneath the pump and into the outflow chamber. Even when I throttled back the bubbles. Now, they are staying above the pump. Why, I don't know. Physics going on there that is beyond me. Mr. Skimmer (or whoever invented it) was either a genius or had incredible patience.
