Question Help with drilling 80gal tank please!

    Hello everyone!
I recently acquired a 80 gal tank which I would like to drill holes in for sump. I have been reading a lot of posts and articles and just want to make sure I'm doing this correctly prior to ordering supplies.
I'm thinking we are going to drill 2 holes in the upper right corner (drain to sump) of tank and 1 hole in the upper left corner (return).
My 2 drain holes need to be larger than return correct?
Would 2 1 inch bulkheads (45mm drill bit) for drain and then 3/4in (38mm) for return be sufficient?

Any and all help is appreciated!

Yup, 2 1" drains are capable of draining over 1900gph. 1 3/4" return is fine, although you could use it at 1" if your going to have that high of a return. The return pump is going to be large, and probably require a 1" return.

Thank you so much for your help! So in researching different pumps, I am thinking I should get a 950gph? Or should I go down to the 700gph and still be ok?
Before drilling I am going to order the pump and the bulkheads so if you have any suggestions on which are better I would appreciate it
    Again, Thanks for your time.

You could go down to 700gph and still have a good turn over rate in the sump.
Pump is all up to you, there are some very good ones out there. All depending on if your going internal or external.
Bulkheads, look at Bulk Reef Supply

One thing to keep in mind, if you're using a skimmer, lower flow through the sump will help it pick up more junk. You can make up for the lost turnover with powerheads. Just my 2 cents, but RM has been at this longer than I have and I've been out of the hobby for 2 years, so there's that too.
